Information about the city of Leiden
The city of Leiden, located in South Holland of the Netherlands has a rich history. It has been a univaercity city for well 400 years, so the oldest university of the Netherlands. The end of the 15th century Leiden took sides with the Dutch revolt seeking to get out from under Spanish rule. The city played an important role during the Eighty Years' War. Every year on October 3 is a very popular festival which commemorates the end of the Spanish rule in 1574. Leiden is a cultural city too with many monuments, churches, canals and parks.
